Amazing Oats, The Low down on the Breakfast of Champions!
Oatmeal has been a breakfast favorite dating back to the time of the Egyptians, later becoming a staple for the Scottish and migrating to the US we have come to adopt Oatmeal as one of the #1 selling breakfast foods in our nation.
But Why? In a nutshell- Oatmeal lowers cholesterol, stabilizes blood sugar, is high in fiber, contains antioxidants, is afforable & keeps you warm and fuzzyinside!
Athletes love it because it is one of the slowest burning complex carbohydrates with a low glycemic index keeping you full longer and providing your body with sustained energy for the long haul.
Which oatmeal do I buy?
Although convenient, the pre-packaged oatmeal variates that you find on your supermarket shelf can be loaded with sugar and calories. These defeat the purpose of eating oatmeal.
Here’s a few varieties of oats with cooking times:
1. Instant Oats or quick cooking oats – 1 minute -Pre Cooked and dried before packaging pressed thin to speed up the cooking process
2. Old Fashioned Oatmeal – 3-5 minutes – Whole grain oats that are steamed and rolled out to make them flat and absorb water faster to make the cooking process quicker
3. Steal Cut Oats ( my favorite) – 15-25 minutes- These are the whole grain of the goat (inner kernel of the oat). The are cut into small pieces by steel mill and then packaged with minimal processing.
4. Gluten- Free Oatmeal- Pure oats do not contain gluten, its the processing plants that can cross contaminate them. Many Oatmeal manufactures have a Gluten-Free line that processes and packages the oats separate from the others to insure a gluten free product. Make sure the label says “Gluten-Free” before buying them if you have a gluten allergy.
How to Prepare Oatmeal?
Oatmeal alone is bland, people add anything from cinnamon and nuts to brown sugar and berries to make this meal more enjoyable. I eat oatmeal everyday and it can get pretty boring after awhile. Last month I was given an opportunity to try a new product via Fit Approach and asked to share my original thoughts and opinions on MyOatmeal.com . I couldn’t be happier that I discovered http://www.myoatmeal.com
I was able to choose from 5 different types of oats , including Gluten-free. Next I chose my flavor , they use all natural flavors from key lime pie to mint chocolate chip, they have everything you can imagine. After the flavor you can add in fruits, nuts or seeds and finally you chose your type of sweetener from Cane Sugar to Monkfruit or Sucralose they have you covered!
I then placed my order and waited for my amazing creation to arrive! I couldn’t be happier. My oatmeal blues are now over! I even woke up for a midnight snack craving http://www.myoatmeal.com creation last night! Its the best Healthy Oatmeal around!
Here’s the recipe I made (I kept it simple)
